Montage Study, 2025–
Existing architectural window, photographic print of the window on translucent fabric,
video projection of the window onto the fabric (colour, sound, loop)
Dimensions and duration variable
First realised in 2025 as a site-specific installation in a domestic interior, Montage Study is remade in response to each site. A translucent fabric bearing a photograph of the existing window is suspended directly in front of it, while footage of the same window is projected onto the fabric. From a precise viewing position, the architectural window, its photographic image, and its moving image coincide as a single composite, bringing three temporal registers into one field of vision.
Montage is displaced here from cinema’s temporal sequence into the space of the installation: architecture, photograph, and moving image are edited together through the viewer’s bodily position. The composite remains suspended between material presence and mediated reproduction, actual and virtual, past and present, without settling into any one of them. As the alignment forms and dissolves with the viewer’s movement, the present and the real emerge as temporary effects of mediation, position, and superimposition.
